Can I restore my chat history if I change my phone number or a device?
If you are changing your phone number or your device, you may restore your chat history by logging in with your previous Kakao Account when you sign up for KakaoTalk.
You can also back up and restore between different devices/OS.
Please follow the instructions below:
[Changing Phone Number]
1. Go to More > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup and back up your chat history in advance.
2. Remove and reinstall KakaoTalk.
3. Verify your new phone number.
4. Right after your new number is verified, log in with your previous Kakao Account.
5. Enter your previous phone number.
* If you do not remember your old phone number, you may not complete this process and therefore you will be considered a new user for KakaoTalk.
If you sign up as a new user you will not be able to restore your chat data.
* If you still have your old device, you can check your old number by going to More > Profile > Phone Number.
6. Once your old number and your new number are verified, you will be able to restore the previous data.

1. Go to More > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup and back up your chat history in advance.
2. Install KakaoTalk on your new device.
3. Verify your phone number and log in using your previous Kakao account.
4. Once you are logged in, you can enter your profile information and move on to the restore process.
